Dairy sheds are a core part of our work

A milking shed is a demanding environment for electrical equipment, with wash-down, moisture, dust and constant stock traffic, and it can't afford to lose power mid-milking. We carry out shed wiring across the region every week, so we know the equipment and the points where it commonly fails. Pre-season shed audits before calving are a regular booking: we check the milking plant, the refrigeration and vat alarms, the hot-water cylinders, the effluent pumps and the lighting while there's still time to address anything that turns up.

Most farms run more than one connection point, the shed, the house, the workshop, and sometimes a second shed or a pump on its own board. We bring these together so the wiring is logical and straightforward to work on next time. If solar suits your daytime load, our farm solar page covers it, and a battery is worth considering if storm outages regularly interrupt your refrigeration.

Pre-season shed audit

A regular booking ahead of the season. We check the milking plant, refrigeration, vat alarms, hot water, effluent pumps and lighting before calving begins.

Multiple boards, organised

Shed, house, workshop and remote pumps, each on its own board. We bring them into order so you know exactly what's where.

Storm cover

A battery paired with farm solar keeps the vat, stock-water and effluent running through outages during milking season.

Farm and rural electrical work

We work with dairy farmers, growers and lifestyle-block owners across the Ngatea region, from milking sheds and pump sheds to switchboards, generators and three-phase supply.

Farm and rural work is a regular part of what we do, alongside our domestic and commercial jobs. Every job is completed to the New Zealand wiring standard, AS/NZS 3000, and signed off properly, so it's safe, compliant and built to last. This page covers the rural side of our work. For shops, offices, workshops and other commercial jobs, see our commercial electrical page.

Charly is registered with the EWRB as both an electrician and an inspector, so he manages the entire job and the work is properly tested and certified. You deal with one person from quote through to sign-off, which matters on three-phase and agricultural work.

Common questions about rural and farm electrical work

Straight answers to what farmers and lifestyle-block owners ask before they book.

Do you do dairy shed wiring across the Ngatea region?
Yes, it's a core part of our work. Milking plant, refrigeration, hot water, effluent pumps and vat alarms across Ngatea, Kerepehi, Turua, Patetonga and the wider dairy country. Pre-season shed audits before calving are a common booking.
Do I need a registered electrician for farm wiring?
Yes. All fixed electrical work in New Zealand, including farm and shed wiring, pumps and stock-water systems, must be done by a registered electrician under WorkSafe NZ rules. Using an unregistered person is illegal and can void your insurance.
Can you upgrade an old farmhouse switchboard?
Yes. Many older farmhouses around the region still run a rewireable-fuse board. We fit a modern RCD-protected board, reconnect the circuits, test and issue the Certificate of Compliance. Usually about half a day's work.
How does a generator changeover switch work?
The changeover isolates your property from the grid before the generator picks up the load, so power cannot backfeed up the lines and put line crews at risk. Manual or automatic. We size it to your essentials, stock-water, vat refrigeration, freezer and a few lighting circuits.
Can you run three-phase out to a shed or workshop?
Yes. Three-phase for welders, compressors, large pumps and plant, including a supply-capacity check with the lines company first. We coordinate the supply side so you're not chasing two contractors.
Will you wire effluent and stock-water pumps?
Yes. Effluent pumps, stirrers and control circuits, plus stock-water and bore pumps, single-phase or three-phase depending on the load. We size the wiring and protection to the pump so it starts cleanly and runs reliably.
Do you cover the wider dairy country and lifestyle blocks?
Yes. Across the Ngatea region and out through the Ngatea district, into North Waikato, and up the Thames Coast for generator and storm-cut work. Lifestyle-block new builds and rewires too.
Can you call back today if the shed power is down?
Yes. Urgent shed faults are prioritised same-day where possible. Call 021 244 5757 or send a quote request. We're based in Ngatea, so it's usually a short drive to come and assess it.
