Heat pump installation Ngatea Supplied, installed, signed off

Charly installs heat pumps across Ngatea and the surrounding towns, from a single high-wall to a full ducted system. He sizes it to the room and does the wiring himself – one registered electrician and EWRB-registered inspector for the whole job, not an installer plus a separate sparky.

How a heat pump actually works

A heat pump does not burn energy to make heat. It uses electricity to move existing heat from the outside air into your home, which is what keeps it so cheap to run. And because it is reverse-cycle, one unit handles the lot:

Warm in winter
Cool in summer
Dries out damp

3 to 4× more heat out than the electricity put in, so it costs a fraction of a plug-in heater to run

Why people pick us for heat pumps

Right-sized, properly installed, with a local sparky on call long after the job is done.

Sized correctly for your space

An oversized unit uses more power, cycles on and off, and never quite feels comfortable. EECA flags right-sizing as the most important install decision. We do a proper heat-load calculation based on the actual room, so the unit is matched to the space.

Install and electrical work in one visit

Heat pump installs need 230V wiring and a dedicated circuit. Charly does that himself as part of the job, so the wiring is tested and certified properly when the unit goes in.

Local servicing afterwards

A heat pump is a 10 to 15 year investment. Filters need washing, the outdoor unit needs an annual clean, and occasionally something needs adjusting. Because we are local to Ngatea, the service that is due in 18 months is one phone call away.

Which heat pump system is right for your home?

Three setups cover almost every home around Ngatea. The right one comes down to how many rooms you need to heat and how much ceiling space the house has.

High-wall unit

A single indoor unit mounted high on the wall, heating and cooling one room or open-plan space from one outdoor unit. The most common and lowest-cost option.

Best suited to

  • A lounge, bedroom or single open-plan living area
  • The lowest-cost way into heating and cooling
  • A fast install, usually done in most of a day

Less suited to

  • Heating several separate rooms evenly

Multi-split system

Several indoor units running off one outdoor compressor, so you can heat and cool multiple rooms independently without a separate outdoor unit for each.

Best suited to

  • Heating two or more rooms from one outdoor unit
  • Homes short on outdoor space for several compressors
  • Whole-of-living-area comfort, room by room

Less suited to

  • Single-room jobs, where one high-wall does it for less

Ducted system

Air pushed through concealed ducts and discreet ceiling vents in every room, for even temperature across the whole home with no wall units on show.

Best suited to

  • New builds and renovations with ceiling space
  • Even heating right through the whole home
  • A clean look with nothing on the walls

Less suited to

  • Existing homes without ceiling or roof access
  • Tighter budgets, it is the biggest install of the three
Not sure which one fits? Charly works it out on the visit, sizing every unit with a proper heat-load calculation and wiring it to AS/NZS 3000, so you get the right system for the rooms in front of you, not the biggest one on the shelf.

Common questions about heat pumps

Straight answers to what people ask before booking. Anything not here, just give us a call.

What size heat pump do I need for my home?
Sizing depends on room volume, insulation, ceiling height, window area, orientation and how the room is used. We carry out a proper heat-load calculation rather than guessing from floor area. Oversized units cost more to run and undersized units never quite get the room warm enough.
Are Panasonic heat pumps any good?
Yes. Panasonic is known for reliability, energy efficiency and quiet operation. We also supply and install Toshiba, Carrier, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Haier and Fujitsu, so the system can be matched to your home, needs and budget rather than tied to one brand.
Are heat pumps expensive to run?
No. Heat pumps are one of the most energy-efficient ways to heat a home. EECA data shows a well-sized heat pump produces around three to four times more heat energy than the electricity it consumes, keeping running costs low for the comfort delivered.
Can heat pumps cool as well as heat?
Yes. Heat pumps are reverse-cycle, so they heat in winter and cool in summer. They also dehumidify, which helps with sleep comfort on muggy summer nights when the air feels heavy.
What's the difference between a high-wall, multi-split and ducted system?
A high-wall is the standard single-room unit. A multi-split runs several indoor units off one outdoor compressor, ideal for whole-of-living-area heating. A ducted system pushes air through ceiling vents in every room, the most even and least visible option, but the biggest install.
Do I need an electrician separately to install the heat pump?
No. We handle everything in-house, including the electrical work. One contractor, one visit, one quote.
How long does a heat pump installation take?
A standard single-room high-wall typically takes most of a day. Multi-split and ducted systems take longer depending on the number of indoor units and how the ducting routes through the ceiling space. We confirm timing as part of the quote.
Do you install heat pumps outside of Ngatea?
Yes. We cover 27 named towns around Ngatea, the Thames Coast and northern Waikato, including Te Aroha, Waihi, Thames, Paeroa and Te Kauwhata. See where we work for the full list.
