Three things we're known for

Registered Inspector

Caravan EWOFs, verifications and inspections

Caravan EWOFs, Certificates of Verification on existing or uncertified installations, switchboard inspections, main earthing checks, generator changeovers and independent inspections for other sparkies. Charly holds dual registration with the EWRB as both Electrician and Electrical Inspector, two separate qualifications, one local tradesman managing the whole job.

Who we are

A local Ngatea electrician you can count on

Charly The Sparky is a locally owned electrical team based in Ngatea, run by Charly Frey. We're small on purpose. The same people turn up to your job, get to know your place and your wiring, and they're still the ones you call the next time something needs doing.

Most of our work comes from customers who have us back again and again. We turn up when we say we will, talk through your options in plain language before we start, and leave the place tidy. Whether it's a quick repair or a full rewire, you're dealing with one team that stands behind the work.

Common questions

Coverage, credentials, dairy shed work, solar, switchboard upgrades and EV charging – the questions we hear most across the Ngatea region, Thames Coast and northern Waikato.

We cover 27 named towns from Maramarua in the north Waikato through Ngatea and Paeroa to Waihi, and along the Thames Coast from Tararu to Thornton Bay. See our service areas page for the full list and which page to land on for your town.

Yes. Charly holds both registrations with the Electrical Workers Registration Board – Electrician (E253525) and Inspector (I104520). He manages the whole job from start to finish, so you've got one point of contact.

Yes. Milking shed wiring, refrigeration, hot water, effluent pumps and vat alarms are routine work for us across Ngatea, Kerepehi, Turua, Patetonga and the surrounding dairy country. Compliance with AS/NZS 3000 – including its special requirements for agricultural and horticultural premises (Section 7) – is baked in to every job.

For most households, yes – especially with high daytime use (refrigeration, heat pump, EV charging). We design the system to match your actual usage profile, not to maximise our quote. See our solar power Ngatea page for the systems we install.

Yes. Older rewireable-fuse boards no longer meet AS/NZS 3000:2018 and most insurers now flag them as a risk. We fit a modern RCD-protected board and the work is properly tested and certified – usually in a single visit on a standard residential job.

Yes – manual or automatic changeover switches for properties from Tararu up to Thornton Bay. Storm cuts along the coast are a regular event in winter, and an incorrectly wired generator can backfeed the grid. We install and verify both sides.

Yes. Type 2 wall chargers (typically 7 kW) are standard at modern Te Kauwhata builds. We coordinate with the main contractor, handle the supply-capacity check, and install pre-completion.

No. Phone, email and the contact form all work fine. We come to you for the on-site visit. There's no fee for the chat or the quote, and no obligation if it's not the right time.
