What a SmartVent system actually does

NZ homes tend to run cold, damp and under-ventilated. SmartVent is a positive-pressure ventilation system that draws drier, filtered air from your roof space, or straight from outside, and pushes it gently through the house. That displaces the stale, humid air sitting inside, so condensation and mould have far less to feed on.

Why people in Ngatea pick us for SmartVent

The appointed local SmartVent provider, with the electrical licence to back it up and a service relationship that lasts.

Appointed local SmartVent provider

SmartVent appoints service providers in each region. We're the appointed one for Ngatea and surrounding districts, Thames Coast and the Coromandel patch. That means parts, warranty work and ongoing servicing all come through one local contact.

Sparky and installer in one

SmartVent installation is partly ducting work and partly 230V electrical wiring. We're both. No second contractor needed for the electrical side, no waiting on someone else's schedule, and the Certificate of Compliance is handed over at job completion.

We service what we sell

Like a heat pump, SmartVent needs occasional filter changes and the odd service. Because we're local and the appointed provider, the service due in a few years is one phone call away. We'll remind you when it's due.

What's included on a SmartVent job

The SmartVent range covers positive-pressure, filtered-outside-air and heat-recovery options. We help you pick the right one for your house, not the most expensive one.

Filter changes, system check, controller calibration. Recommended yearly, the same way a heat pump needs servicing.

Noisy units, controller faults, ducting issues, low airflow, error codes. We diagnose and fix.

Older SmartVent units replaced or upgraded to current generation for better airflow and efficiency.

SmartVent and heat pumps work better together. See our heat pump installation page for more on pairing the two.

Installation includes the 230V supply wiring and controller circuit, properly tested and certified with a Certificate of Compliance as a Licensed Electrician (EWRB registered).

Common questions about SmartVent

Straight answers to what people ask before they book. Anything not here, just give us a call.

What does a SmartVent system do?
A SmartVent system improves indoor air quality by drawing in drier, filtered air and gently circulating it through your house. That displaces stale, humid air, reduces condensation on windows, helps with damp and mould, and makes the home easier to heat in winter.
Is SmartVent worth it for older or colder homes?
Yes. Older and poorly ventilated homes are exactly where SmartVent works hardest. BRANZ research consistently flags ventilation as a key factor in NZ home moisture problems. By managing airflow and moisture, SmartVent makes the home feel warmer, drier and more comfortable year-round.
Does SmartVent use much electricity?
No. SmartVent units are designed to run continuously on very low power. Most homeowners don't notice any meaningful change in their power bill, and the improved heating efficiency (less moisture means less energy lost to drying the air) usually offsets the running cost.
Can SmartVent work alongside heat pumps?
Yes, they're complementary, not competing. SmartVent moves and conditions the air through the house; the heat pump warms or cools it. Together they create more even temperature and lower humidity. See our heat pump installation page for more.
How long does a SmartVent installation take?
A standard residential install typically runs to a day or so on site, depending on house layout, ducting runs and how many diffusers are needed. We confirm the timeline as part of the quote so you know what to expect.
Do I need an electrician for SmartVent installation?
Yes. The system runs on 230V mains power. We do the install and the electrical certification ourselves as a Licensed Electrician (EWRB registered), so there's only one contractor on site.
Do you service SmartVent systems you didn't install?
Yes. As the appointed local provider, we service any existing SmartVent system in the area, regardless of who originally installed it. Filter changes, controller faults, low airflow, age-related repairs, all covered.
Do you install SmartVent outside of Ngatea?
Yes. We cover 27 named towns across the Ngatea region, Thames Coast and northern Waikato. See where we work for the full list.
